Description

This course will provide an introduction to Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) theory and practice, including how to analyse SANS data.

Learning Outcomes

With completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Calculate scattering length density

  • Describe the components of a SANS instrument

  • Compare time-of-flight and continuous beam SANS instruments

  • Describe the relationship between instrument configuration and measurement capabilities.

  • Design a small angle scattering experiment

  • Describe the relevance of small angle scattering to nanoscale structure analysis

  • Analyse small angle scattering data using approximations

  • Analyse small angle scattering data using geometric models

  • Lectures on :

    • SANS Theory

    • SANS Instrumentation

    • Applications of SANS

    • Data Analysis Methods

  • Computer lab work on analyzing SANS data

  • Presentations from students on how they would apply SANS to their research.
