Bridging Rheology and SAXS/SANS: Strengthening Theoretical Links Between Structure and Flow - RheoMAXESS

Join researchers from rheology, SAXS/SANS, soft matter and modelling for a workshop exploring the links between microscopic structure and material flow. Discover new perspectives, exchange ideas and help strengthen connections between theory and experiment.

When: 13 October 2026, 10:30–16:00
Where: LINXS, The Loop, Rydbergs torg 4, 224 84 Lund
Organisers: LINXS theme RheoMAXESS
Target group: Experimentalists, theorists, and computational scientists from academia, research facilities and industry working with rheology, SAXS/SANS, soft matter, complex fluids, statistical physics, fluid mechanics, and materials modelling or any mixture of these. The workshop is aimed at researchers seeking to strengthen the links between structural characterisation and predictive models of material behaviour under flow.

About

The ability to connect microscopic structure with macroscopic material response remains a central challenge in soft matter and complex fluids. This workshop will bring together researchers from rheology, scattering science, statistical mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials physics, and computational modelling to strengthen the theoretical links between SAXS/SANS and rheology. Discussions will focus on how scattering can inform constitutive modelling, how theoretical descriptions of flow-induced structural evolution compare with SAXS/SANS observations, and how nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, multiscale simulations, and data-driven methods can be integrated with experimental measurements. The workshop aims to stimulate new collaborations and develop a more unified framework for understanding structure–flow relationships across a wide range of materials.

The workshop consists of a few invited speakers, followed by a discussion aimed at identifying common objectives or challenges. Posters are most welcome, which will be exhibited during coffee and lunch breaks.
