Title: Lund University Center for Preparedness and Resilience: a Focus on Biodata Security

Abstract

The Lund University Centre for Preparedness and Resilience (LUPREP) is a multidisciplinary initiative that brings together researchers from medicine, law, social sciences, engineering, risk management, and security studies to strengthen societal preparedness and resilience. The centre serves as a platform for addressing emerging challenges that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries, ranging from health crises and civil preparedness to technological change and hybrid threats. A central premise is that modern resilience requires the integration of scientific, societal, legal, and operational perspectives.

Within LUPREP, several work streams focus on the intersection between life sciences, security, and large-scale biological data. One example is the Greyzone Genomics project, a multidisciplinary effort examining how advances in genetic technologies may influence international competition, hybrid conflict, and societal resilience.  A second example is the BIOINTEL initiative, which explores how artificial intelligence, advanced biometrics, and large-scale biomedical data are converging into new opportunities and challenges for intelligence and security communities.  Together, these activities illustrate how LUPREP seeks to anticipate future challenges arising from rapid technological change and to provide scientifically grounded support for preparedness, resilience, and societal security.

Biography

David Gisselsson Nord, MD, PhD, is the representative for medicine in the Lund University Centre for Preparedness and Resilience. He is Professor of Molecular Pathology at Lund University, Senior Consultant Pathologist at Skåne University Hospital, and Vice Dean for International Affairs and Security at the Faculty of Medicine. David's research career began in cancer genetics and genomic medicine, including leadership of the national implementation of whole-genome sequencing for children with cancer in Sweden. In recent years, David has increasingly focused on research security, biodata security, and preparedness, exploring how advances in genomics, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology influence national security and societal resilience.
