Protein Production Sweden, Gothenburg University, Gothenburg, Sweden

Kristina Hedfalk focuses her research on integral membrane proteins, their structure, function, and regulation, with a special emphasis on aquaporins (water channels in the cellular membrane of all living species). She is also particularly interested in improving the production of membrane-bound proteins to overcome the well-known bottleneck that limits detailed studies of eukaryotic membrane proteins. Her lab hosts a local node of Protein Production Sweden (PPS), a national research infrastructure established in 2022. PPS focuses on the production and purification of (mainly) recombinant protein reagents for all Swedish researchers. The seven participating PPS labs use several different expression systems, allowing the production of many types of proteins. Researchers can access the PPS infrastructure via a common entry point and obtain individualized support based on their research needs throughout the entire protein production and purification process. This support can include all steps from project counselling and initial design to final quality control, or any single or multiple steps of the process.
