The LINXS Visiting Researcher Programme offers researchers the opportunity to spend time in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment at the heart of Science Village in Lund, Sweden, close to MAX IV and ESS. The programme brings together scientists from different fields and career stages to collaborate, exchange ideas, and develop new research directions.
Visits are typically connected to ongoing LINXS themes or to activities linked to MAX IV and ESS. Visitors engage with the LINXS community through workshops, meetings, and informal discussions, creating opportunities for both scientific collaboration and networking.
What the programme offers
Funded visits last a minimum of two full calendar months and up to four months.
For funded visits, the programme covers one return trip between the visitor’s country of residence and Lund, as well as accommodation through LU Accommodation.
LINXS provides practical support before and during the visit, including a workspace at LINXS (The Loop, Rydbergs torg 4, Lund), where we have several hot-desking offices.
Visiting researchers keep their regular salary from their home institution, and LINXS does not cover salaries or daily expenses.
Researchers with their own funding are also welcome to spend time at LINXS and use the LINXS premises, without financial support from LINXS. If you are interested, please contact us at info@linxs.lu.se.
Who can visit
The programme is open to researchers at all career stages, from early-career researchers to senior scientists, whose research relates to one or more of the LINXS research themes.
How to apply
Please download the Visiting Researcher application form below, complete all fields, and send it with the required attachments to the LINXS Management at info@linxs.lu.se. Please read the instructions in the form carefully, as only complete applications will be considered.
You are welcome to contact us before submitting your application. If your research fits one of the LINXS themes, you can also get in touch with the theme coordinators to discuss a possible collaboration.
Selection criteria
Applications are assessed by LINXS management. We consider:
relevance to the LINXS research themes or the Young Researchers’ Initiative
relevance to neutron and/or X-ray science
the expertise the visitor brings and how it strengthens LINXS research
the potential to start new collaborations or develop existing ones
the added value for the wider LINXS community, for example through seminars, workshops, or support for early-career researchers
During and after the visit
During their stay, visiting researchers are part of the LINXS community. Visitors are expected to have their home base at LINXS, with a regular presence to interact and network with colleagues, and to give a seminar or webinar on their research. We plan visits to overlap, so there are usually several visiting researchers at LINXS at the same time.
After the visit, visiting researchers submit a short report on the outcomes. They are also expected to acknowledge LINXS as a secondary affiliation in publications and other research outputs resulting from their stay.
