Pandemics and Alertness (PandA) webinar series
The LINXS theme PandA organizes a number of open webinars related to its goal to strengthen the connection between virologists and scientists working with X-ray and neutron techniques and fostering awareness of what large-scale infrastructures such as MAX IV and ESS, but also scientific networks, societies and companies can offer in the context of virology and pandemic response, as well as talks covering current topics in virology.
Introduction
Throughout history, viruses have represented a major public health threat. Recent years have seen several examples of zoonotic viruses causing outbreaks and rapid transmission in human populations, for example those caused by Nipah, Mpox, Ebola, Marburg, Influenza and Sars-CoV-2 viruses. Hence, it is reasonable to expect that severe future outbreaks and pandemics will occur. Pandemic preparedness requires frameworks for swift mobilization of available scientific expertise, tools and resources that are put in place well in advance.
The LINXS theme PandA aims to strengthen connections between virologists and scientists using X-ray and neutron techniques, highlighting what large-scale scientific infrastructures like MAX IV and ESS can offer for pandemic preparedness and responses. It seeks to build lasting cross-disciplinary collaborations and structures extending beyond the theme’s duration, increase technology awareness among virologists, and develop practical frameworks for rapidly deploying these methods in future pandemics, contributing to a stronger, more prepared scientific community.
This seminar series is composed of open webinars related to PandA’s goal to strengthen the connection between virologists and scientists working with X-ray and neutron techniques and fostering awareness of what large-scale infrastructures, but also scientific networks, societies and companies can offer in the context of virology and pandemic response, as well as talks covering current topics in virology.
TIMELINE
Events will be created continuously from summer 2026. Each webinar will run from one hour to one hour and a half followed by questions from the participants. We hope to record all the webinars so that they can be available on the LINXS website, under Educational Material.
