Biophysical Screening and Characterization Unit, SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development Platform at Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden

Annette Roos completed her undergraduate studies at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and graduate studies at Uppsala University in molecular biology and biotechnology, with a focus on structural biology. During her PhD research, she solved structures by X-ray crystallography of a protein from M. tuberculosis with the final aim of structure-based drug design (SBDD), including protein production, characterization, and enzyme kinetics.

After completing her PhD in 2007, she went to Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) in Oxford for a postdoctoral position focused on high-throughput protein structure determination. She later returned to Sweden and SGC Stockholm. In 2014, she joined the Drug Discovery and Development (DDD) Platform as Head of the Biophysical Screening and Characterization Unit. Her group mainly works on approved DDD projects, providing surface plasmon resonance data and crystal structural data to drive chemistry in small molecule projects. In antibody development projects, she provides structural bioinformatics information about the targets, assesses the risk for cross-reactivity, and analyses epitopes. Her group also has an interest in proximity-inducing agents and how biophysical data can support the development of such molecules. She enjoys teaching and strives to spread her enthusiasm for protein 3D structures.
